West Oak

Came here with a bunch of coworkers around 12:20 pm on a Tuesday.

To the surprise of some of us, it was quite empty.

I decided to get the sesame crusted tuna burger. I also wanted to try their pasta but had qualms about doing so…

Sesame crusted tuna burger ($12) –¬†Crispy prosciutto, tomato jam, tarragon mayo

Our food took a long time to come out.

The ‘burger’ also had arugula and came with their ‘triple cooked’ fries.

I enjoyed the burger. Everything tasted good together and I really liked the nutty flavour of the arugula.

I didn’t know the jam was tomato jam until I read the menu again, because it tasted more like a strawberry jam.

Although it tasted fine, I did think something as sweet as that jam, as well as the salty prosciutto are elements that are overpowering for tuna tataki and made it difficult to taste it. I was also expecting a lower bun to tuna ratio.

The fries were excellent. They are thick cut triple fried fries, giving the outside a beautiful crunch while the inside was soft and fluffy.

Overall, the meal was good and I was quite full.

Food: 4/5
Value: 3.5/5
Overall: 4/5
Would return: yes
