Came here on a weekday evening around 6:15 and it was quite busy. We had to wait 10 – 15 minutes.
I was quite hungry, so I decided to go with the tontoro miso ramen and I decided to make it large as well.
I don’t know why, but the pork and toppings were served separately from the noodles. The broth was served really hot and it stayed fairly hot throughout the meal. Unfortunately, the noodles softened a bit in this time, and I would have liked them a bit firmer to begin with.
The ingredients such as the mushroom, scallions, and bamboo shoots didn’t seem that fresh, but it wasn’t that significant. The pork on the other hand was really good. It was extremely tender and succulent. My only complaint was that it was served cold. That being said, placing the pork in the broth solved this issue quite easily.
The broth was rich and well seasoned, and it had the signature deep ‘burnt’ kind of flavour to it which I liked overall, although a small part of me also thought it was overdone. What I didn’t like about the broth was that there seemed to be plenty of particulate settling at the bottom of my broth and I think that took away from it. I think it should have been strained out.
Lastly, they don’t serve kaedama, or refill noodles here, which made me quite sad. Their large portion honestly wasn’t that large, and I definitely could have used a noodle refill, which usually only costs around $2 at other places like Jinya or Marutama.
Overall, it was a solid bowl of ramen, and my complaints are only but a few.
Would return: yes
